It has always been difficult for me to leave my garden whenever I have to take a trip, especially an extended one, during spring, summer or fall. I am leaving for Thailand this week. If the flowers could speak, they would probably say “Don’t leave.” I feel so guilty each time I leave, and while away I think of all the new blooms I might have missed and whether the plants get enough water. The automatic sprinkler does not always adequately cover every area. I am sure the weeds will rapidly grow and try to take over certain flowering plants. I just hope most will be resilient and survive until my return. I wonder whether other people share my feelings on leaving their gardens. Gardening is such a personal thing. I do not believe anyone else can provide that personal touch to the plants, except its owner.
The rose I'll miss. CommentsLeave a comment |

Pat,
I just noticed a photo of a mandevilla of yours in the garden slide show, with a note that it spends some time indoors.
Do you manage to keep this plant going long term? I know mandevillas, in particular Alice du Pont, as very vigorous humongous vines in California, but not hardy here. Do you prune when it comes indoors, or give it some particular winter care? Are you growing some miniature variety?
Hope you see this at least when you come back from your trip,
Thanks.
