The raised bed now: Broccoli in the lower left with spinach; the tall leaves are garlic, the light green leaves are lettuce. (See it a month ago.) We used a side dressing of compost before planting, but have not fed anything since. Planting so thickly has kept all the weeds away. There have been almost no bugs. I wonder if the garlic is keeping them away.
At the stick in the broccoli, you'll see a tomato plant poking up. When the broccoli is finished, the tomato will take over the spot. The spinach is starting to bolt now, and will be replaced by seedlings of patty pan squash Balmoral and sweet peppers. Close up of the young broccoli head after the rain.
