Peony and the Sinister Shovel
Beth asked a question about transplanting peonies.
Here's Steve, our photographer/peony expert's reply:
"The herbaceous peonies can be transplanted easily.
You will get a lots of new strong growth, plus more plants.
I would not walk past a tree peony with a shovel in my hand, it might FREAK OUT and stop blooming for a dozen years, and don't event think about transplanting one..."
Steve is planning to transplant a few of his herbaceous peonies this weekend, and he'll take a few photos and talk you through the process.

Steve, your timing is perfect. I'm moving mine to incorporate them into my new landscaping plan next week. I've been planting perennials all over my yard for 20 years and waiting for this day. Next week, I pull everything in closer to the house and make them sing where I can hear them! I'll follow your lead.
