The forecast is for the coldest night of the fall so far, with temps in the wee hours below freezing -- even in the city, it's expected to be 31 degrees at 2 a.m.
In my somewhat protected yard, tomatoes are still growing and ripening, nasturtium and morning glories flowering, catnip thriving. Even the tender impatiens are still in bloom.
This morning I brought pots of basil and sage in to the kitchen window, and stuck pots of gerbera daisies in a cheap portable greenhouse (think wire shelves covered by a garment bag).
Blooming hibiscus and tuberous begonias and just-about-to-bloom tuberoses (finally!) went into my sunniest south window, but the light looked dim. I realize it's because all the leaves are still on the trees this far into November, and the lilacs are blocking the light.
Strange weather indeed...
