Blue Iris

This morning I was unexpectedly greeted by the opening of my first mini blue Iris, from a clay pot that had 6 sprouting plants.

I picked up the already-planted Iris bulbs last week, and placed the pot in a bright spot in my living room. I watched them grow a little taller each day with happy anticipation, but did not think it would get to the flowering stage this fast..

I don’t know if there will be other colors, in addition to this beautiful blue one. We will just have to ‘wait and see’

Iris was the flower that gave birth to the fleur-de-lis symbol. Iris was native to Florence, Italy. The Medici family carried the Florence symbol to France. It was adopted by Louis VII in the 12th century. The symbol can be seen on the Quebec flag and as a logo for the New Orleans Saints NFL team. The most famous Iris painting was by Vincent van Gogh, done during the most difficult period of his life while in the asylum.

Pat, after your email I went to Whole Foods and got one for myself. I'm in awe of clear blue flowers. Thank you for the tip!

Those came from Whole Foods and they look fabulous indoor. I suppose you can replant them outdoor afterward for next year.

I don't think we have one of those around here I hope I can find some for next years growing season.
