"....... A host of golden daffodils
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze....
........and then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dance with the daffodils. "
William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 - 23 April 1850)
My new daffodils, with large blooms of 5-inch diameter, are called Juanita daffodils. They have bright buttercup-yellow petals and dark orange cups. They certainly add cheer to my sunny front garden.
Daffodils belong in the Genus narcissus and the Amaryllis family; they are native to Europe, North Africa and Asia. (I am sure they are not native to South East Asia as I had never seen one before I came to the U.S. Yet I know of the daffodils back in the '50s from Doris Day's song "Secret Love" in the movie "Calamity Jane").
Daffodil is a symbol of sunshine, rebirth and new beginning. It is also the birthflower for the month of March.
