Baby's breath is probably one of the flowers most used for bouquets and other floral arrangements. They are known as a "filler flower" and "floral-industry mainstay".
We mostly see them in the flower shops and almost always in white.

I was very fortunate to have found the rather uncommon pink baby's breath several years ago and planted it on the sidewalk strip of soil, by the curbside. It has survived many harsh winters, the salt and sand that piled up on the sidewalk by snow-removal trucks. (The botanical name, Gypsophila, means 'gypsum-loving').

The other day I made a small arrangement, featuring only the baby's breaths. For once, I wanted these tiny, dainty flowers to take the center stage and not to just 'accent' or 'accessorize' others for a change.

Baby's breath blooms through the summer. The cut flowers last about a week and can be used as dried flowers.
