The yellow, sombrero-like flowers caught my eye when I stopped by a garden center a week ago to see if I might find something to add to my sunny front garden. The relatively small, unusual-looking, bright yellow flowers with tall coneheads and light, lacy, airy foliage are just right to fill in the space between my dahlias.

The yellow mexican hat , a hardy, drought-resistant perennial belongs in the same family (Asteraceae) as rudbeckia (Black-eyed susan) and echinaceae.

It is also called by other names :- Upright Prairie Conflower, Long-headed Coneflower and Thimble flower. It is classified as wildflowers (see easywildflowers), but this species is also grown as an ornamental.
