Amaryllis rosado in a green eco pot was a gift I received before Christmas. I started watering it within a few days of its arrival. The first growth appeared about a week later. The two flower stems grew to about 2 feet and are more slender than the stems of all the amaryllises I previously had.

I eagerly waited for the buds to mature and open up. The first bloom was recorded on January 10th...

and the flowers kept on blooming consecutively.

One stem produced eight flowers and the second stem, six.

The flowers look different from the ones we have been accustomed to seeing. They are smaller and not showy; but rather delicate and exotic. The petals are long and narrow with unusual white brush-markings.

The blooming period lasted about 2 - 3 weeks. I trimmed off the spent flowers, one by one and finally cut off the dried-up stems. The single bulb of amaryllis produced no leaves. I planned to store the bulb for planting next year .

Then.. the third stem appeared, quite unexpectedly last week and seemed to grow very quickly when I moved the planter to a sunny spot by my front window. The first bloom opened up a few days ago...

Amaryllis rosada is a hybrid of the South America species Hippeastrem cybister in the Amaryllidaceae family. The bulb came from White Flower Farms.
