Daffodilis practically synonymous with spring.

A picture of "Summer Daffodil" ( Narcissus 'Erlicheer' ) in a catalog piqued my curiosity. How nice it would be to have daffodils blooming in the summer! I ordered half a dozen bulbs and planted them earlier this year near my spring daffodils.

Flower stems appeared a few weeks ago, followed by a gradual blooming process of multiple flowers on a single stem. The blooms are much smaller than regular daffodils.

They remind me of narcissus, also with lovely fragrance, except the flowers are double, in ivory with a tinge of yellow in the middle.

The flower stem got quite heavy and the cluster of flowers fell to the ground. I found one this morning among the vincas.

The summer daffodil is such a 'cool' specimen to have on such a hot, hot day like today...

They also make beautiful cut flowers.
